A reminder that the 24th of April is the day of remembrance of the Armenian genocide, which one and a half million Armenians were killed between 1915 and 1923. About two million Armenians were living in the Ottoman Empire at that time. Armenian people were subjected to deportation, expropriation, abduction, torture, massacre, and left in the dessert to die of starvation and dehydration by the Turks. Even today, Turkey refuses to acknowledge that a genocide was committed against the Armenians during WW1, and dismisses the evidence about the horrible massacre as mere allegations and often prevents efforts for acknowledgment.

This is literally the 100th year of Turkey denying the genocide of the Armenian people during WWI

I would like to say that I am truly saddened by this post. Yes, I am well aware that things were done and it can’t be condoned. However, using the word “Turks” does nothing but discriminate us innocent Turks (I’m not trying to say that all Turks are innocent) and accuse us of something happened way before we were born. I’m 17; and saying “Turks” literally means that me and many others are responsible for something that happened almost a century ago. This wasn’t the decision of the Turkish people, it was the decision of the Ottoman government. I will not say a word about the current Turkish government because I don’t approve the things they do either. I am just trying to defend the Turkish people that has nothing to do with this situation. Please refrain using “Turks” and “Turkey”. Instead, use “Turkish government” because often the opinions of the government and the people’s are not the same. Please, before you make any aggressive comments; try to think rationally and emphatize.
